Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

The power of asking…

Yesterday I learned an important lesson… the importance of just asking for what you need or want.  I approached my daughters’ daycare director about holding a diabetes walk to fundraise for JDRF and she quickly and enthusiastically agreed.  I had carefully prepared what I was going to say and had anticipated a negative response so I was ready to ask her to give it some thought and then decide – which I still ended up saying, so I suppose I’ve now opened the door for her to change her mind, but I sure hope she won’t.

I’m so excited but now also nervous about how I’m going to make this work and be a success.  I’ll be reviewing the walk materials JDRF has provided this weekend and start to make some plans!  This is so cool!

Hey there! Just wanted to tell you again how excited we are about the girls’ daycare agreeing to do the walk. I can’t wait to hear more details about it…if they do the “Hero” theme I think it should be a lot of fun for them and I think a success in terms of involvement! You’ll have to take some pics (if they allow) that day as well.

It may be too late to make this suggestion but…

Instead of the JDRF you may want to raise money for Dr. Denise Faustman’s research into a possible cure for type 1 diabetes.

Her approach is currently in phase 1 clinical trials. Her lab is funded from volunteers raising the money. It’s a true grassroots effort.

You can read about my recent meeting with her on my blog.

Oh, and I should point out that I’ve had type 1 diabetes for over 35 years.

In the last 2 years I’ve managed to raise over $18,000 for Dr. Faustman’s research. This is how much I believe it may work.
